Take A Break engages with the theme of work ethic. We were inspired by a credo from the Breaking scene: going all in — training intensely every day and constantly pushing oneself to develop your skills and style. On the one hand, work can be something beautiful, for example when ballet dancers spend years working on themselves and take pride in it. On the other hand, being in a constant state of flow can lead to tunnel vision, resulting in a lack of reflection and the loss of interpersonal relationships.
In Take a Break, I want to show that moments of stillness and forming human connections deserve just as much space in life as work does. Most of the choreography takes place in a subway station — a place many people pass through on their way to a destination, but also a place where connections between people can be formed.
